Project Management

Kappes, Cassiday & Associates is confident in our ability to provide clients with accurate, appropriate testing services and feasibility studies. Why? Because we are willing to follow up these studies with construction management of the projects we have detailed.

KCA is currently (mid-2009) providing the Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management services (EPCM Services) for the $140 million Pinos Altos, Chihuahua Project of Agnico Eagle. This project includes infrastructure, a 4,000 tonne/day agitated cyanide leach plant, and a 2,500 tonne/day heap leach. We manage this project with seven engineers from our Reno office and a Mexican staff of about 30.

In 2006 KCA completed a similar project, the $105 million Ocampo Project of Gammon Gold Inc. KCA provided full EPCM services for a 1,500 tonne/day agitated cyanide leach plant and a 12,000 tonne/day heap leach, and also for extensive infrastructure installations including a water dam and a 20 megawatt power plant.

KCA has also managed complex metallurgical development projects:

  • Itos, Bolivia was the world's only primary production plant for chloride leaching of silver. As owners/managers, KCA produced 2,000,000 ounces of silver over a two-year period. Details of this project can be seen at www.itosbolivia.com.
  • Berenguela, Peru, was a complex copper-silver-manganese project which KCA purchased from the Peruvian government. Prior to KCA's involvement, the project was regarded as un-economic. KCA successfully developed a novel flowsheet to treat these ores, then sold the project to Silver Standard Resources.

Itos

Agitated leach plant in Itos, Bolivia

Itos is a US $17 million, 600 tonne/day agitated leach plant which recovers precious metals and base metals from previously processed flotation tailings using a complex acid leach process.

Berenguela

Berenguela

Berenguela

Berenguela is located 5 kilometers (3 miles) northeast of Santa Lucia on the altiplano of southern Peru. Access is good, with a major paved highway adjacent to the property. A main-line railway passes within five kilometers of the property.

Exploration in the 1960's comprised channel sampling of 17,700 meters of underground workings, bulk sampling, and diamond drilling of 6,628 meters in 108 holes. In the 1990's Kappes, Cassiday & Associates developed processes to optimize metal recovery. From June 2004 to October 2005, Silver Standard completed 222 reverse circulation drill holes totaling 19,029 meters of drilling. The deposit is composed of flat-lying manganese-rich beds in folded dolomitic limestone. The deposit is located at the surface and forms a body 500 meters wide, at least 1,500 meters long and averages 60 meters thick.

Ocampo

Ocampo project

KCA successfully completed the $104 million Ocampo, Mexico project for Gammon Lake Resources. KCA had full responsibility for engineering, procurement, and construction management.
